  Welcome to my E-Portfolio!

I have created a place where people can view my culminating work as a postgraduate student at San Jose State University, mastering the subject of Library and Information Science.  To put this e-portfolio together I had to sit down and go through all my coursework, beginning fall 2005 and ending spring 2008.  I printed out each paper, re-read every single one of them in order to see how they could be used as evidence within my statements of competency.

This e-portfolio contains 14 competencies (A-N) that encompass the basic principals and skills in the field of library science.  Back in January 2008, I sat down and analyzed each competency statement.  I questioned what the wording meant, what evidence I could use to support it, and how I was going to approach it.

I took out a journal and wrote down each competency by hand.  Underneath it I wrote down which pieces of evidence I was going to use to support it.  My pieces of evidence range from research papers, blogs and wikis, to pictures of displays.  By outlining my competencies this way, I was able to get a better understanding of what the final portfolio would look like.  I switched pieces of evidence throughout the writing process, but my original plan helped me complete this portfolio in a timely and organized manner.

The competencies are organized with tabs.  This was decided upon for easy accessibility.  Within each tab is my statement of the competency.  I decided to write in first person, which was helpful.  I was able to reflect on my personal experiences and the work I have completed over the past three years with ease.  My pieces of evidence are in bold print and can be accessed by clicking on them.

I have also included my professional philosophy statement, my personal reflections on my time in the MLIS program, a statement of my strengths, and my personal growth plan.
